Emily A. Gardner focuses her practice in the areas of civil litigation and complex litigation, with special emphasis in the areas of environmental, maritime and animal law.

 In addition to her law degree, Emily holds a Master of Science Degree in Zoology, as well as certificates of specialization in Environmental Law and Ocean Policy.

She has worked in Hawaii State Government as well as serving as a consultant to several private companies, academic institutions and non-governmental organizations on projects involving the environment and marine living resources.

 More recently, Emily has become a pioneer in the rapidly evolving area of animal law, and regularly undertakes matters and situations in which the legal status, biology or behavior of animals is an important factor.  Emily handles matters involving pets, livestock and wildlife.  Examples of matters Emily regularly undertakes include: serious dog bites and animal attacks, condominium/landlord tenant issues, service animal issues, developing estate plans to include animals (e.g., pet trusts), consumer products and service issues, and disputes concerning animal ownership.

 Emily is a member of the Hawaii State Bar and is licensed to practice before all courts in the State of Hawaii.  She is a member of the American Bar Association Animal Law Committee and the American Veterinary Medical Law Association and is also a trained mediator.
